Project for Awesome: Is YouTube Getting Punk'd for Good?
Just caught wind of the "2008 Project for Awesome" somehow I missed last year's debut - but here's the gist - for one day out of the year, the YouTube Community completely takes over. I know, I know - the power of YouTube is always in the hands of its loyal community. But this time, instead of being funny or even a little stupid, the creative energy of YouTuber's will be channeled to promote the causes and charities that are most important to them.
This year's Project for Awesome culminates on December 17. You can celebrate your favorite non-profit or charity by creating a video and uploading it to - well, YouTube. Make sure to include why the non-profit or charity is important to you and why you support it. Here are the instructions and the templates.
After the P4A videos are made, the youtube community works together to comment on and rate the videos. As these videos climb the most-discussed and top-rated pages, the videos slowly start to take over the entire site. Last year, Project for Awesome reports that it caught the staff of YouTube completely off guard, and they couldn’t believe they’d been duped. Project for Awesome is hoping to do them one better this year.
Don't forget to let us know if you upload a video by commenting below - and we'll have our Social Citizen readers help promote it.

What a great post! Sorry I'm so delayed in commenting. I went to the parade this year and it was wonderful! The weather was perfect and I was able to get a spot right in front at 76th street (which was perfect for a short person like myself!). Another great spot bedroom furniture to visit is The Lower East Side Tenement Museum, which has a room devoted to an Irish immigrant family from the 19th century.
