Why “beta”?
by Kari Dunn Saratovsky on 18 Apr 2008
Gmail is still in beta. Yahoo! Messenger is still in beta. So if everyone else is doing it, why can’t we put our paper out there in beta?
Yes, it may seem a little strange for a foundation to release a paper and admit to not having all of the answers, but that’s exactly what we’ve done — and we’re excited about throwing it back open to you to help us find some answers.
Incidentally, after we decided to go this road less traveled, we found the term beta reader. So congrats! You can now consider yourself a beta reader — an essential part of helping us turn Social Citizens into a living, breathing document.
