Last week I was invited to participate on a panel at the Young Nonprofit Professionals (YNPN), DC Chapter conference on social innovation. It proved to be a robust discussion filled with challenging questions from the moderator, Tom Clark, of Teach for America and at times lively and thoughtful comments from my fellow panelists Darius Graham, Co-Founder, DC Social Innovation Project and Melissa Carrier, Executive Director of the Center for Social Value Creation at the Smith School of Business UMD.
Highlights and topics included:
- What is the definition of social entrepreneurship?
- Examples of meaningful social innovation that included Code for America, DC Social Innovation grantees and the UMD's student run Food Recovery Network.
- How to move from idea to business or organization.
- What's next in terms of next gen engagement.
