Alex is currently an intern at the Case Foundation. He is a senior at Georgetown University majoring in Finance and International Business. As a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity on campus, he is committed to service and is always happy to go out of his way to brighten another's day.

This Thanksgiving we take a moment to appreciate the spirit of giving and charity that is in the air. On the 22nd of November, many of us will gather with those we care about and give thanks for all we have and will receive in the coming year. Let us not only give thanks this holiday, but also take the opportunity to give back.

We at Social Citizens have curated a list of online sites and platforms to help you keep the circle of giving going. Check them out and be sure to share your favorites if they are not on our list!

#GIVINGTUESDAY

#GivingTuesday is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season, which is traditionally held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations. This year, on Tuesday, November 27th, let’s make it a #GivingTuesday by supporting and promoting charitable activities that aid nonprofits.

  • You as an individual or family are essential to creating and supporting #GivingTuesday in so many ways. Most importantly, you can choose your favorite cause and make a contribution on or around #GivingTuesday!
  • Please help spread the word about #GivingTuesday. You can do that right now by encouraging your network to share messages on your social media channels and invite your friends and family to share in the celebration of giving.

CROWDRISE

The mission of Crowdrise is simple: to give back. Crowdrise is a platform that easily allows donors to interact with various organizations and charities and have fun while doing it. This year, the Case Foundation is partnering with Crowdrise and Six Degrees to provide matching dollars for donations made through the Crowdrise platform on #GivingTuesday. Be sure to check out the site to learn more and increase the impact of your donation!

ALL FOR GOOD

Looking for a volunteer opportunity in your community? All for Good's mission is to facilitate volunteerism and community service. To meet that goal, they have developed a custom volunteer opportunity oriented search engine that is powered by the largest database of volunteer opportunities on the Internet. You are sure to find a volunteer project that meets your needs and helps others!

THE MISSION CONTINUES

Let us also remember and give thanks to the men and women who are in the armed forces and serving our country during the holidays. You can work with the Mission Continues—a nonprofit organization that “challenges veterans to serve and lead in communities across America”—to find a service project near you, or get help starting a service project of your own.

DONORS CHOOSE

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on this site, and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you. You can give as little as $1 and make a difference.

When a project reaches its funding goal, Donors Choose ships the materials to the school. You'll get photos of the project taking place, a letter from the teacher, and insight into how every dollar was spent.

SPARKED

Want to help others, without ever having to leave home? Sparked is a unique plarform that allows organizations to post a “request” on the website - anything ranging from finding a good marketing tagline to learning a new strategy for using social media. Individuals can then go on the site to help “solve” the request by working together to aid the organization. You can get involved today!

Our team at Social Citizens would like to wish everyone a great Thanksgiving and to remind you that it only takes a small gift to change someone’s life forever.
